The hall that stands at Leeholme road ends. It’s gone by a few names, but I remember it as Leeholme Welfare Hall. This humble but fabulous building has been the heart of this village since the 50s. It’s housed events from all walks of life; wedding parties, birth celebrations, funeral wakes, discos, toddler groups, dance and exercise classes, and has brought people together. The chip shop was also integral to completing anyone’s night out. The hall was recently celebrated in a major way by being rebuilt at Beamish, as part of their 1950s village. Quite an accolade.
