I was quite an accomplished explorer in my youth and hated being tethered to the house. I spent much of my time raking round the streets of Coundon and Leeholme, and some of those images are imprinted on my memory. This painting is a snapshot of the back streets in Leeholme, which held my interest because of the characters and various activities going on. Old cars being worked on, kids on their bikes riding through lines full of washing that filled the street, everyone went to the local shop. Good times.
