The reason for this painting was a memory of a game at the Kingsway ground in Bishop Auckland when I was around 14, and remembering the atmosphere and noise. When I moved to Bishop in 1997 I started going to the local games. The picture is painted from the viewpoint of where I used to stand. It was great to see everyone walking into the town, scarves and caps on. The camaraderie of the crowd, the characters in the stands, the hot bovril! The cafes would fill up before the match, and the pubs would fill up afterwards.
